Howdy All
First post on here. I'm a southerner up here for my first time and have managed to sneak my rod and reel and a few deep divers and a popper into my bag without the mrs seeing em.
Anyway I'm here in Jabiru at the moment and haven't wet a line yet but on the drive back to Darwin tomorrow I will get my chance (mrs promised I could pull up at a few spots and have a flick)
I've noticed a few guys fishing from the bridges on the highway, so guessing that may as well be a good spot as any.
Never tried culvert fishing before so am thinking I might give it a try. Saw lots of water draining into runoffs next to the highway but unsure of exactly if they are the right spots or not.
Anyway if i do get anything I'll be sure to post photos.

Culverts are very hit an miss. You have to be there at the right time. when they do fire they can fish pretty well. A good sign is when you can hear the tarpon flipping and splashing under the bridges. when i have seen that action i have usually caught barra.
Good luck with it.

You should pick up a few soft plastics if you get the chance or even rig a weedless it'll save you a lot of lost lures and give you more fishing time. Another thing if the water isn't really pumping you generally don't bother (Well i wouldn't) as most of the time it has to be pumping for there to be fish as they need a lot of water to swim up to the flood plains. And keep your eyes peeled for crocs and cars if your fishing from the road there are some absolute tools on the road these days... Good luck!

Update: We stopped at a culvert that was labelled West Alligator and the waterline was well below the bridge (about 1.5mtrs below) which I have been told is not that great. However there was tarpon everywhere! It was great fun and something i will have to come back to the NT for again.
Anyway my charter for tomorrow has been cancelled, so I'm heading to Shady Camp instead with some nice big soft plastics to try and catch my first elusive barra. Will be there around 9pm, so hopefully on the high tide I will get lucky.

Not at all. The only time you might wade is when the water is ankle deep and you are crossing to the other side. The key to fishing it is to throw your lure (single hook soft placky) to the line where the water flowing over the barrage meets the still water below.then work your lure back in along that line. If the tide is out or dropping try the fresh water side as close to the middle as u can go without the current taking yur lure over the barrage. Luck
