Hey guys!
Well I woke up this morning after knockin off work at 2:00am. I was drowsy and pretty grumpy too. I had planned on grabbin some breaky and going back to bed but then I noticed the palm trees outside, no wind at all.
After a short debate with myself I decided that Ill go for a flick for queenies off the rocks over the low tide. They were rampant! Chromies, soft plastics and poppers all getting hit on most casts by mid size fish. After 2 hours of that along with getting busted off by a decent trev I decided to head home for a sleep. On the drive back I couldn't help myself and stopped in at a little ledge I'd found that produces a few small barra from time to time.
After scrambling down the rocks I saw that the tide was almost too high to fish it, I only had a 10 minute window so I got straight into it. Flicking a little crystal minnow along the ledge. I saw a rat barra, it showed no interest in my lure. The water was very murky too.
Just as the water was ankle deep I was considering walking back to the car when I heard that awesome dull bass THUD! An underwater boof right at my feet. I struck instantly and not a second later, a horse exploded from the water right at my feet. I'm shaking now! I could see the lure caught on the side of it's face as it proceeded to jump like a maniac over and over before stripping 30m of 30lb braid into open water. The whole fight I had doubts running through my head. Whats going to pull first...the hooks? the mere 40lb fluro leader? Or is she going to cut me off on the boulder just too my left?
You've all seen how much sh*t I cop Especially since I put that video up of me losing my previous PB barra! Pressure was on.
Just then a young bloke walking around noticed the fish jumping and ran down to see if I needed a hand, I asked if he could go get my camera for me. Thanks mate! After a solid 5-10min I had her at the bank and managed to grab her by the jaw and lift her into a puddle.
Shaking like crazy I slid my rod beside her and cut a little scratch to mark her length. We both thought she was just over a meter and as I didnt have a brag mat with me I had to stop in at bunnings on the way home for a measuring tape.
After getting a few photos I swam her for a minute or two before she kicked out of my grip and swam away looking great.
She went 110cm!
My PB by 25cm and I dont think I could be happier! A metery, landbased on a lure and at a spot that I spent a lot of time trying to work out.
I know it might seem a bit childish but I've cut out the background. It's a spot that generally goes un-noticed and is in plain sight of crowds. I like being able to fish there by myself
