137 or bigger ??

Post by barramad1 »

On our latest trip to PNG looking at a few photos from the previous year one particular Barra photo came under scrutiny . There is one fact we know for sure , the fish bottomed out the scales on the Boga Grips at 60 pounds . The one thing that is not certain is the length , the guy that measured it said it was 137cm .
After doing some measurements like measuring the anglers shoulders then applying a rough scale to the fish in the photo we came up with something around the mid 160's . As you can see it's a bl..dy long fish the question we're trying to answer is if the measurer mixed the 3 and 7 in the 137 up .
I guess we'll never know , still it was one hell of a catch ( and release ) on a surface lure too
Any thoughts ?? :?

That's huge, I got bored and measured his cap peak width, then counted out 11 full and one partial cap width....bit hard to see exactly where the tail ends, leaving out the partial one and using my caps measurements of 15cm I got a conservative 165
Not far off the first guess of a transposed number and 173 :o
fish are skinny, the ocean is fat

Well if you think you could only just reach head to tail with stretched arms it would easily be over 160 cm.
They reckon your arms at full stretch are then height on your body if that gives you an idea..

To eliminate the issue of depth of field measure your finger width and work it out from there.

Angling Adventures . Yes they also have a couple of Black Bass locations they can arrange for you .A new location on Lake Murray has just been set up and the first groups go in this year. Some of you may know Pip Clement who has done the research for Angling Adventures and the Black Bass in the new location.
