Info request - Billfishing Coburg

Post by JasonFaulkner »

Hey there all, I'm departing Darwin this friday and boating up to Trepang Bay for roughly a weeks fishing. I was wondering if there are any general areas on the way through that are prevalent with billfish? Just general areas around Cape Don/Trepang Bay/Orontes Reef that holds any areas worth trolling. Any help would be appreciated.

Also any tips for anywhere to start within Trepang Bay would be great as well.

Cheers. Good luck to those in the Billfish Shootout coming up too.

Got back on the weekend, didn't spend very much time chasing billies however within the hour and a half we did try chase them, we went 1-0-0. Great billfishing grounds up there by the looks of it, lots of clear water, great shoals pushing from 30-40m up to 5-15m deep with bait over it, loadsss of booby birds too.

we didn't troll for too long as we were mainly there chasing queenies, trevally, trout etc. Also on some of the days we were planning to go we woke up a bit late and were in a bit far in the bays (35ft mothership for billfishing as a bit too choppy by midday for the 6m) and the 35fter is a bit hefty on fuel to race out from the bays.

fish4me, yeah the mackeral may be a bit aggressive but its the same as what I've found from fishing around fenton/the trench/sailcity, go too close to the mackeral and tuna bust ups and you catch them but stay a set distance out and you'll find some billfish.

Yeah as I said I went 1-0-0 within about and hour and a half.. The grounds there look a lot better than Fenton patches and north gutter
