Hi all. Benj and i are back from our awesome trip to Exmouth. We had a great time and caught some nice fish. Unfortunately by all accounts of the locals it was/is a quiet season compared to last year. Ben caught far more than me. I think he caught about 7 marlin biggest being 60kg including 2 in Gamex and 4 big sails. I caught 1 marlin albeit small and on 24 kg. Did better on the sails with 3. Much much bigger sails with my best being around 40kg. I did drop a lovely black near the boat (approx 50kg) when the hook broke. My excuse was that i was too busy spotting and old rod grabber was too quick. Its not easy in a 5.3 , in generous seas, pulling in the gear, chasing the fish, trying to film when its just the two of us i tell you. We were amazed how close in the fish are and thankfully so as when the winds get up especially the northerlies it is unpleasant and we got soaked and smashed around on several occassions. The water was incredibly blue and it didnt take us long to workout some hot spots. Most of the sails however were caught in the greener water. We fished Gamex and had an absolute ball. Very well run comp, friendly people, daily prizes and only $160 EACH FOR 6 FABULOUS DAYS OF AWESOME FISHING.We were the smallest boat in the tag and release billfish section. There were 40 ft blackwatches, and big cats, some bigger than my house. We had one team even offer to buy us a bigger boat for next year. We often wandered how comfy they were sitting inside sipping their lattes whilst we were trying hard not to sustain spinal injuries from the crashing,or drowning from the spray. There were some good size blue marlin that got caught and as it turned out an old school mate of mine fished the comp and he caught his first and the biggest for the comp. 700pd blue. Not bad for his first marlin 10hrs into the night on ?kg stand up. If you ever get the chance get there. We will certainly go again. It wasnt an easy decision to leave the run off, but as it turned out with this years wet, it was a great decision. Plus i did manage to get myself a nice 1mtr and 110 girl before we left. On the board after a zero last year and level pegging with Benj again. Anyway the trip wasnt without some dramas. Firstly Bens very first marlin, which i spotted, was caught a brought to the boat was awesome. Gorgeous lit up 60kg black calmly complient beside the boat. Im filming away "look at you your awesome, smile benj, thumbs up," gorgeous footage. Released very well, high fives. Lets look at the footage. My gut sank. Press record karen, record. Just as well hes a forgiving man. Onward and upwards. Whats that smell benj, as ben was angrily dealing with a wind on cos i did the nana after dropping a sail insisting it was the reel, whats that smell ben, ben somethings burning, (still ignoring me) BEEENNNJJJJ put that f...... down somethings is burning (and we are carrying fuel in jerrys) ok we have electrical fire on board. Should i don the jacket, do you want the extinguisher? No just pass me the plyers. Ben calmy cut the wires to the stereo, removed the smoking system and that was the end of the stereo. Water had gotten in a that was the problem. We saw heaps of dolphins, manta rays, and even a whale shark which ben had a dip with. The snorkelling is amazing. We didnt try hard for GTs etc on the reef as it was a bit eery with big swell coming towards you. We caught mackie and tuna for dinner and i got my first dolphin fish (released, too pretty). We found the best beach which had crytal clear water, bait in abundance and yummy sandwhiting. Exmouth really is a fabulous place and fishermans paradise. Id say get there and have a look

Thanks MUD we had an awesome time. Exmouth isnt for all i guess, but we loved it and there are some awesome fishing to be had. The fishos are very helpful and friendly. I will put some pic on soon. I do have a great Nikon camera and have some good shots but like i say it isnt easy to organise the boat and take shots when there is only two of us. We are certainly geared up for the billfish comp now
