2013 DGFC billfish Classic October 27-29th
As the topic says the billfish comp is on again
This year it's been put on the best possible tides..
DGFC is holding a meeting on the 1st of October at the trailer boat club and a bit of a run down on the billfish comp and a bait rigging demo..
The bait rigging night on the 1st is a great opportunity to
See baits rigged live in person. Never seen before in Darwin we have 6 specialized riggers doing queenies, milkfish, garfish and mullet. Great chance to check out how to rig baits that hasn't really happened before. Everyone welcome including non
Club members.
So if your interested in the comp or just interested in learning how to rigg a few baits get down there ..

Oh and I think the 20 odd baits that get rigged up go in a raffle draw so someone gets a few free rigged baits

Doug,
Would you consider taking some pics of the mullet rigs and doing a tutorial? I'm just about to do a Queenie tutorial but despite having looked far and wide I'm still yet to find a decent Circle hook Mullet rig that doesn't spin.
Cheers,
John.

I'm no guru on the circle hook rigs so I'm just winging it and trying different things that work
A simple easy mullet rig and milky rigg for rigging them quickly is have a ball sinker of the size that suits the bait thread ya doubled Dacron or wax thread through the sinker then straight up through the centre of the gill plate in the chin and come out the top of the mullets forehead then make the loop and put it over your hook
The boys in Broome used that simple method and won using 4" 6" milkies .. Hardest part is getting your loop the right length for different size baits to have ya desired hook length from fish roughly 30 40mm I use !

Just a reminder to anyone interested !!
Normally 20 odd baits rigged that get raffled off so someone has a chance to pick up $100 worth of rigged billfish baits

Yep should be good heard a few people mention the price of entering its $350 that's $1 a day to put in ya piggy bank to start saving :)
But pretty big $$$ to be won also which comes from and entry fee hopefully there are a few teams this year so there is a better gauge on fish numbers !
And I've decided of anyone hooks and lands a big marlin on a stinking mackerel lure is disqualified

Thatd be right DOUGDOUG wrote: And I've decided of anyone hooks and lands a big marlin on a stinking mackerel lure is disqualified
cant help it if they eat the wrong lure and don't touch the lures or baits set for em
Heres the one that ate the classic in the Bluewater last year was planning on having a go this year, but depends on how the Mrs is travelling

If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!
Especially when you can see them!
