I use to change them all to owners but I have just changed back to vmc 6x strong trebles.

Owners are good but rust quickly and I had a few snap (on snags) but never had one straighten !

I love Owners, use them on most lures I buy that have lightish looking trebbles.

I like the Owners and find that they don't rust much. That said though I am very anal about ensuring that all the "Used" lures go into the "Used Tackle Tray" then each lure is washed off excessively in fresh water, then dried under the fan - Obsessive/Compulsive - maybe? :bonk: The VMC 6x that 2Rods uses seem to let you get away with a little less obsessive behaviour without rusting up too much.

It is definitely worth changing your hooks - otherwise things end in snot and tears when that Big Fish and Strong Braid meet!

The VMC 6X are a little cheaper than the owners and a bit lighter as well.

Doors Off :drinking1:

Depends on what owners you get. The st41's rust fairly quickley I have found but the 66' s dont so much. The only problem is I cant hold a fish on the smaller 66's. Have dropped countless fish after the hook up. The 41's on the other hand hook and hold everything (especially the snags :bonk: ). VMC 6xstrong are good as an all round choice (Strong and dont rust too quickley). I like the st41s on all my bigger lures especially the ones with 2 hooks not 3 IE big bombers. The St41's hold a lot better in this situation I believe. Would get expensive if you used them on all your lures though.

i haven't used them yet mainly for the price i have always used vmc 6 x strongs and always change the trebles on new lures mainly classics and bombers as they only come with 3x strongs very easy to straighten even on the smaller barra. mates use owners and love em.

Yeah Ben,... i fish was what got me wondering about the owner hooks ! May be one of those subliminal brain things having paul w saying owner hooks a buzzilion times during the show. i use 6x,s at the mo with good results. but if you get em all for free like most of the fishing show host,s i,d probly have all my lures rigged with too !! Have you noticed his boat,s now have yammies and not those WHITE GHOST MOTORS anymore??? fancy that???? he,ll end up with fat guts after eating all that humble pie ???? lol

Some of the sebiles come with Owners (according to the sticker on the packet) and they're as weak as p..s, i swapped them with VMC's.
Mind you i use Owners exclusively when billfishing, and rate them highly!

I have had the same issues with Owner ST66's as Rods with them snapping off, as soon as I see a little speck of rust off they come, Shogun have brought out a copy of the ST66's which seem to be a little better when bench tested but not sure of their longevity. I do like the VMC 6x's and have had no failures with these. A lot of the Sebiles, Magic Swimmers, A Cast and Koolie minnow 125's, come out with light duty owners (bronzed or tinned) and require change out.

Ive switched back to VMC. When you fish everyday the owners rust pretty quickly and i get tired of constantly creating the point of the hooks over and over. But then I dont really wash my lures that much. I like the longer shank on the vmc hooks too, seem to get more hook ups on half hearted hits. Never had them straighten yet.

always used eagle claw , and would still use them if they were sold localy .Ive got eagle claw hooks on some lures that are at least 25 years old and not a sign of rust
I'm using VMC 6 x right now .They seem to be pretty good.
I've a lot of hand made timber lures from Richard Lee in Qld , not sure what hooks he uses. Might ask next time Im talking to him.
Kev.
