very helpful, are you going to give it ago blinky?
I think I might Rum..........been doing a few experiments and prototypes of deep diving bibbed soft plastics so it will be way less expensive to make some rather than ruining bought jobbies.
Pisstenbroke, what's the plastic compound like as compared to something like a Hollow Body or Z-Man?

Hey Blinky, There is 3 compounds. Soft, medium & hard. I find medium the best ,soft is very soft. I make minnows 90mm, snapper grubs & 100mm flick baits. If you wont to see how easy it is let me know . only takes 5 mins to get the first ones poured.

Hi fff1964, The only thing i find is do small samples, you can recycle most soft plastics but the color is never the same . You only need to add a small amount of glitter/ color at a time . It is very rewarding when you get a barra first cast. The only limit is imagination on what color you want. I'm adding scent to mine now & has made a difference.

Hey P&B Sent you a PM but thought if i post the questions for all to benifit if interested How much soft plastic fluid do you heat up at once, just enough for the moulds? If you have some left over do you just reheat it ? Roughly how long does it take to set so you can pop them out? How much colour do you add to this amount? or is there a ratio? Would you heat up your two separate colours at once and pour them close together or do you have to wait so colours don’t mix? Do you coat your moulds with any thing or clean them? Whats the best fill hieght , do they shink a bit?
Any hints or tips would be great.
I know i will learn as i go but this will save time for starters hopping to get my Kids involved too

Hey Guys Ive been pouring and experimenting with my own SPs on and off for a while now. Just heat up enough fluid to make the batch you require. They generally do shrink slightly when they cool but if you over fill the mold just a little you should be ok. You can always trim off any excess with scissors. Futhermore dont use a microwave you would normally heat your food in and take precuations. Gloves and a respirator/face mask would be a good idea. As a scientist i have worked with a vast array of very nasty chemicals in my time and the fumes given off by the Plastisol solution remind me of some bad carcinogens that i have used in the Laboratory. Plastics when super heated release acrylamides, BPAs etc. So err on the side of caution especially if your making large quantities.
