G'day All,
Just got back from a blue water trip, great trip although ALL of our deep divers and some shallower 10" started to swim to the side / jump out of the water after 2-3 Mack/Queen!!! These are Rapala and Yozuri lures NOT Cheep
Any tips on how to fix or reduce this?? We changed the trebles and in cases where we could change the bib we did to no avail!!
One last one, bl..dy barra classic have been having some issues with lures not swimming, anyone else had this?
Lures not swimming!!!

Re: Lures not swimming!!!
If they are running to one side, the tow point is bent. Adjust it with pliers until it runs straight again
re jumping out of the water, probably going a bit too fast. Use the right lure and they can run at high speeds

Re: Lures not swimming!!!
Question- Are you using wire or extremley heavy mono?
If so any kink in the wire will make them blow out a lot more. Also any tags left too long on the mono will have the same effect. Some times things like the wrong size clip (too heavy) will also do it.
On another note are you leaving your lure trays in the sun. Most modern lures are filled with a gas that when heated will expand and warp the lures making them no longer stream lined and hydrodynamic and this will also cause them to blow out. I had it hapen down the roper in 40 degree heat and lost about $500.00 worth of gear.

What about hardbodied lures what sort of gas is in them? The soft plastics I can understand they have petro chemicals in them.......I found out the ones on youtube had no gas either, perhaps they are duds too http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z4l-63LkKHg

IF they are running left bend the tow clip to the left and the same to the right. Also even though you were only going 2 or 3 knots you may have been trolling against a solid current which will also effect how they swim.

Re: Lures not swimming!!!
When tuning your lures, make sure you make only small adjustments with your pliars.
As Quinny mentioned, towing accross a current, against a tide etc will effect blow outs, and the action of your lure.
Use the right lure for the job, pointy bibbed lures will troll better at speed than rounded ones.
And lastly, when your lure is swimming off centre to your right or your left as you look at it, hold the nose of of your lure facing you, and bend the tow point towards the direction that you want to correct it to. If it is twisted, try straightening it, if it tracks straight, but has lost its action, squeeze the loop to form an oval, or try pulling it down towards the bib. Plastic lures may split or crack if you put to much pressure on them, so be firm, but ot too heavy handed!
Pulling the tow point up, and away from the bib, will tighten the action.
Cheers, Dave
Barratrooper lures....not plastic!
