Post Posted: Sun Jan 29, 2012 1:37 pm    Post subject: 8 lures as a present.

Hi there,

Not long ago, Doors Off, a respected member of the FFF Forum, gave me a few fishing lures as a present, for my small collection.
This is the lures that I am presenting you today.

First comes my first ever JaySea:

Image
The JaySea Mundi 80.

I am very happy with this lure, as this is my first ever JaySea.
JaySea Lures, were first made in Queensland, then moved in the Northern Territory to Darwin, then disappeared from the radar. So I am very happy to have one in such a good condition.
If any one on the forum know where they are now, I would love to know.

Then comes a Rapala:

Image
The Original Floater.

A classic in a nice retro colour, alway something nice to have in the collection.

Then comes a nice little Killalure:

Image
Killalure Trout Bait.

A very nice little lure, not easy to find in the tropical north, where Barramundi lures are a lot more common than trout lures...

Then comes one lure for which I have absolutely no idea of its origin or name:

Image
Do you know it? Name or maker?

It is actually very well finished, but I don't have a single clue as to what it could be.
If you know, please enlighten me.

And now comes some of my favourite lures to collect, some Reidy's:

Image
Aquat Rat in gold chrome. (Medium deep).

Image
Aquat Rat in chrome. (Medium deep).

Image
Aquat Rat in blue and white. (Deep diver).

I am starting to get a few Aquat Rat, but I didn't own or hadn't even see some in these colours. So I am rather pleased to have them now.
And even if I have never fished with an Aquat rat, I will not fish with these.
(But I am thinking of trying them in a friend's swimming pool, just to have a look at the action... )

Image
The Rattle Snake.

This rattle snake is very interesting to me, as it has the Reidy's logo on the back, and is in a colour that you can't find on their catalogue anymore. Another lure that I had never seen in this delivery.
All these Reidy's are with the old logo.

One of the reason I really like the Reidy's, is first because they are the local guys. And in second, because my first ever Barramundi caught on a lure was on a Reidy's B52's, in the colour gold. It was in 2007, and I still remember it, and have the lure...

Doors Off even gave me a Floppy lure.
But as the bib broke during transport, it is at the moment in the expert hands of a repairman.
So the photo will come latter, and I can't wait, as this is too, my first Floppy.

Thanks again Doors Off, these will fit very nicely in my small collection of fishing lures.

Once again, you will have guessed it, none of these lures will ever swim any more...

Have a good day,
Pecheur

Max, that is a dangerous lure. I reckon if I had one like that it would get caught in my lips as I took sip from my glass of coke.

Pech, very interesting to read your results of your research into Jay Sea lures, thanks for sharing that.

Cheers,

Doors Off

That 4th lure looks a lot like a freebie that came with the NT news I think it was from memory a couple of years back but the one you have there has had a hook upgrade if it is the same lure im thinking of.

The fourth lure was bought at a tackle store in Toowoomba about 8yrs ago, "Fish 'n' Bits" from memory. I can not recall the brand or model, but that shop had a lot of unique lures in it. I have been racking my brain as to what it was called, but with no joy.

Cheers,

Doors Off

The blue Rapala was a legendary lure. We used to troll them in the Finness when old man Sweetheart has still kicking, although I was younger then.

I remember the barra we had caught in the bottom of the 12 footer.

Rum.

Hi there,

And thanks for the replies.

No the 4th lure is not a Frenzy from Berkley, it has a much better finish and seem stronger.
I have just done a photo with the 4th lure on top and the Frenzy on the bottom for you to see.
They are different lures...
The mystery continue ...
:)

Yes the blue Rapala is very nice as a retro kind of lure. I know that they still make it, in fact this model, the Original Floater is supposed to be the most sold lure in the world, according to Rapala literature.
But in blue like that it is a very nice one, for me better than some of the fancy colour that they do nowadays.

I used small as in an affectionate term, like when someone says my little darling when talking about a grown up woman...
And in fact, it is a little collection compared to some that I have seen you know.
I don't need to rent a shed to store it yet...

Have a good day,
Pecheur

hey Pech, those floppy lures used to be great in the Swan catching flatties, could change the angle of the bib to swim shallow or a little deeper depending what u wanted.

The rapala was and still is great, can still find some around the place, the floaters were made from balsa wood, i think, used to get chewed up pretty easily by tailor!!!

Caught some of my first Barra on those old Reidy's as well, great lures.

good addition to the collection!!

Smartie
