Hey all
Decided to mate out fishing this morning. After getting a call that he was running late finally got down to East Point as the tide was about mid way out. We grabbed some bread on the way out cause i had this great idea that i may burley up some Milkies. (hahaha) As luck would have it every bit bread ended floating back in to the shore (on an out going whats with that). Any way its still looking good and the mullet are scoffing down the bread. Puts some mullet on the lines and out they go.
waiting
waiting waiting
waiting waiting waiting
Nothing for ages. get a few small hits here and ther. We probably there for about 3 hours when bbbbzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz, the magic noise. I reach for my rod and.............. it stops. Bl...dy typical. Rebait and throw out. I have had enough by this time and are ready to return to the cool pool waiting at home. But my mates wents another go so he throws out his line again. By this time the rocks are just about exposed and we have had like 2 runs in 4 hours.
Waiting waiting And then my rods get this slow bend in it and slowly i start losing line. Tighen the drag and strike. Bugger suddenly i have lost like half a spool. Then it stops and sits. I attempt the old pump and wind but the fish aint moving. Slowly it starts to take line again and i'm calling it for a ray or shark. It stops and i get a bit of line back and it deides it isnt done yet. Another slow run and the drag gets tightened up and up and up. Still losing line...crapHand ton the spool and my rod gets a nasty bend . The fish stops and we both have a breather.
I start gaining some line in very slowly and then nothing. not getting not losing any.. I decided to give a slow heave. Looking out you can see the mud/sand coming from the bottom. its probablty 50 metrres out and in half a metre of water. I look out in front of me and see that the rocks are exposed and im losing water. if this fish is coming in it wont be from where i am.
I start moving down the rocks slippping and keeping up the tension. The little fish decides he wants to go about deeper. Not a bad thing. i make it out with out slipping over too much. The water is all murky and fish about 10-15 metres away. This has taken about hour and half. All of a sudden..................................

This nose pokes out of the water. cr.p what is it my mate asks. Dont know an i keep winding. getting closer and the fish is almost beach due to the level of the tide this nose with lots of little spikes on it looks up.

I cut the line and hope that he can swim away after his snack. Nothing its thrashing around and not going anywhere. So down i climb and walk into the water. Grabbing his tail there is a small sucker fish looking back at me. It thrashes a bit more and i manage to drag it deeper hopping that the it doesnt turn while thrashing and get me. Letting it go and moving back i watch as it swims off to find something else to eat disappearing into the murk of the water.

Cheers guys.
Land Locked- it took a whole mullet, not a livie though but was probably feeding in a metre of water
Sheeby - so that could be why you looked familar, seen your picks on here. Yeah it paid off alright but still would have prefered a queenie or trev but a first for me on rods
Fry - gotta put those things back mate aint no point in keeping them they are to nice a fish. Must admit i was a bit scared dragging back thoughin case he had a thrash around. He could do some damage with that saw on the legs.
Actually had some go come done for a look, he thought i had a croc splashing around
thanks again all

Great catch mate, I recon I would have been a little worried about the thrashing too. Well done.
