Tks Darwinguy, will check it out sometime in a week or two (off to Melb tomorrow). East Point was a disappointment as well yesterday! Besides no jewies in Darwin Harbour, I don't think there are any queenies or macks either (plenty of diamond back mullet though - didn't hook one but there were heaps swimming around!).

I went to Cas beach with my girl today at dusk, less than half an hour fishing including setting up, rebaiting, etc... caught 3 whiting and 1 Powertail (1st hookup, took less than 30 seconds, one keen little bugger). 2 of the whitings are good eating size. Didn't have camera with us but will try to take some photos next time. Good fun!!!

will be trying that for sure :)

having fun getting the kids into fishing, i thought it would be frustrating, but its pretty good :)

a feed of whiting (hopefully) sounds awesome, esp with homemade chips and some fancy tartar sauce

When asked by a non-fisherman "how many fishing rods do you actually need?", the correct response is either:
A) n+1 (where n is the number if rods you currently have); or

B) n-1 (where n is the number of rods which would cause your other half to dump you)

Theres plenty at lee point but your better off waiting til the tides getting nice and high and catching them with a cast net. Went down to lee point today, on 3m low, not much doing, did see some dolphins though.

my whiting tips to share:

- best local spots are cas beach, lee point beach, east point beach (flat and sandy)
- best time and tide is dusk incoming tide
- tiny circle hook (mustad demon or gamakatsu shiner)
- minimum weight running sinker (make sure there is a few cm gap before sinker & hook)
- a small red bead or tube above hook
- peeled prawn dice into small pieces (worm is the best but prawn is easy to get)
- best to get a rod holder (so you can't strike)
- set reel on free spool
- DO NOT STRIKE when you use circle hook
- enjoy sunset
- reel in the whiting when you hear zzzzzzZZZZZZ
- come say hi to me if you see a guy with a hydration pack, riding a bike with 2 or 3 rods packed to the side of the backpack.

Hey guys,

Down south we would normally wade out to catch whiting...makes it easier to flick around past the breakers where they normally are. What tactic do you use up here at this time of the year? Do you cast from up the beach so you dont get stung? I had a go at lee pt beach last week on a low tide and got absolutely nothing.

Whiting in the NT stick close to shore, too many predators out wider.
