Have the week off and ben hitting local spots lately in hope of some good fun.
went down to an easy spot today in hope for queenies.
as i got there i saw queenies about 60cm hitting bait schools so i ripped out the bait jig and did my best. got some suitable bait and floated it out, bout an hour later i saw a school of about 20 metre plus queenies hitting schools up, and heading straight for my float. "here we go this is gonna be good" 20lb line 5 kg rod in hand tongue in cheek im almost pissing meself waiting. as soon at the pack flam right next to the float.................. NOTHING. nothing at all happened. I thought maybe the livey was gone. I soon realised the little bigger had swam deep enough from the running float to not be noticed by the ferocious pack of fish about it.
They'll be back i said
got a second rod going and about half hour passed and i bought it up but was a bit heavier, thinking i had snagged some coral but was a nice little flattie who swallowed to hook into the gills and had to sit in my esky till the swelling went away.
more bait, jig jig jig... bam something with a bit of weight. at first sight im thinking cobie, bring it up and as soon as it hit the surface of my tailgate i found out that thongheads are incredibly hard to remove when latched on.
jig jig jig, need new water in bucket. down goes rope new water half way up handle snapped of bucket and into the harbour.
check rod again and same thing alot heavier and this time a couple small kicks another flatty this time about 45cm. into the esky he go also.
as soon as i rig up that rod with bait it touches the sea floor and gets smashed with a small run..... another flatty this time about 55cm. and fairly well built.
not much happened from then on but throughout the day
Things i learnt: queenies are going in the early morning. if only i could get there. flat head love the greenback sards sun is hot and burns face no matter how much sunscreen you apply jigging for bait is much better on the rising/ higher tides. and flathead taste good even though they look alot uglier.
Hopefully queenies want to play tomorrow

lol nah he went back, not game to try one of those litle guys, though im sure someone on here has, plus i think they are very good for the eco system so always unharmed. he may have a slight burn from sun when he was stuck to the tailgate.

Nice looking dinner there mate. And yes I agree, the flathead up here got smacked with the ugly stick. I got a small one up west arm that was caught in amongst a school of small goldies. But it was only about 20cm so he got sent back to grow
