yep nearly collected a cast net at Palmy ramp a couple of weeks ago, was only a young feller though, i'm sure he will learn.
Had it happen at Buff a few times, bit hard to navigate around them there as well with the spring tides!!! Thats ok though, cause he got it caught on the rocks and ripped it himself, tide pushed the net off the ramp

It's just common courtesy.
At Mandorah Wharf you pull your lines in when the ferry comes (but that's probably more so you don't have to re-rig) but the structure is primarily there for the ferry to moor. Same with a pontoon at a boat ramp - it's there primarily to tie your boat to when launching and retrieving and to allow you in and out of the boat safely. It's availability as a fishing platform is a bonus. So if it needs to be used for it's primary purpose, then move out of the way.
Ignorance isn't just limited to the landbased fraternity though.
Fishing the rockwall at Cullen Bay with lures one morning, had a boat full of twats trolling up and down about 20m off the wall - there was three of us fishing with lures and none of us had a snapper lead handy (Yes, I know you are entitled too troll, but have some respect for your fellow fishers).
Another pet hate is people that park at the top of the ramp to sort out their boat, either before launching or after retrieving. Or drop the boat in the tie up to the pontoon while they get their boat and gear organised.

Good idea Nomad .Im sure the bloke that threw his cast net in behind me as I was backing of my tailer would have had second thoughts if it was explained to him in such a way!!!
Thats unbelievble, no matter what you do for some people, they just dont care/think about anyone except themselves. i was just saying that if something is explained, most people will do the right thing.
i remember years ago, a bloke got busted for ignoring those big red "go back, wrong way' signs you see on freeways. he didnt understand why HE should have to go back. i would have belted the net thrower

Look at those lovely rocks off to the right of the first pic, Landies go fish off there. Can't stand people expecting you to drive around there lines in the water when you come back to the ramp, feel like cutting them off as I go past!!!

Just a bit of common sense from all parties is required. For the boat that means a bit of understanding that the landbased fisho is more restricted in his options than you. For the landbased fisho that means just sticking to one line so it can be retrieved quickly out of curtesy.
At the end of the day we all pay our taxes for these things to be built and I think we can be mature enough to share the resources provided.

Why would you want to fish off a pontoon at a boat ramp anyway?? Its for launching boats .and there are far better places to thow a line in with out all the boat traffic disturbing you.

Personally I don't however a lot of the people I see fishing there are kids, back packers, and familys.. Yes there are about a thousand better places to go for a fish, but I guess it's not always possible for some people with small children and what not..

I find the reverse happens at shady barrage fishing land based landbased, sometimes boats will anchor easily within casting distance of the people fishing off the barrage which I dont understand. Or it happens when they drop their mate off at the ramp to get the boat then idle over and start casting with the motor running, anyway end of rant
