Matt when I used to live in Canberra we used to see fish of or near that size just rolling around in the smallest creeks no more than 20cm deep. Their fins would even be out of the water. The thing stopping me from doing something similar was all the snakes between me and the water.

they Sunbake around,, i might try get some pics act when the Rain stops... but i think we might be going cod fishing soon so ill put some of that up...
you just walk strait up and nail them... i've been using my Compound bow as well... it actually works a treat....

Best shooting I ever had was carp & a semi-auto Ruger. You could shoot from the hip & follow your line of fire. Shock waves from the shot gun would blow them out of the water on opposite side of the channel.
