It's been a while since I posted in this forum. Looks to me the landbased section isn't very active nowadays, so I thought I'd contribute a bit.
Came back to Darwin on the university break about 4 weeks ago and been fishing pretty much every second day. Have caught a range of species during this timeframe but didnt manage to get much barra , which is a shame. Hopefully when theres more rain I'd do better.
Anyways, headed out with a few mates yesterday morning and went to check out different spots which we marked on Google Maps. The first spot we fished looked like a really good fishing hot spot, however we didn't get much there and the sandflies were vicious. The weather conditions were pretty poor - gloomy rainy weather and also there was a lot of wind and we only managed to pull out a small cod.
Second spot we went to was very much the opposite. The salmon were busting on the surface, and you'd hear the occasional barra boofs. Very Exciting ! Hooked up to a handful of salmons which was great fun on the light gear - those things sure go hard when hooked ! Cast after cast we'd get a solid hit. I reckon we dropped over 20 good fish that day. Also, got various reef fishes such as small blue-tusk fish as well as a few rock cods.
Just as we're about to leave , my mate who was washing his stuff off in the water had a bit of a fright when something big bumped him on the leg. He got scared shtless . Turned out to be a big jewie around the 1.2m . Pretty strange though, it's not very rare to see a fish like that cruising along the shores in 1 m deep water.
All in all , pretty good for a landbased session and hopefully with more rain, I'd have a barra post up here soon !
