It was a great day had by all, well done Oldfart and Mrs, good to see all the fellow FFFr’s get together and have fun. Worked well and next year will b just as good.

We had a ball on our boat, the rivalry started after about half an hour, i think it was 3 all, small goldies for the 3 kids we had on board. Nomad and i were kept flatout busy, dehooking fish, rebaiting, explaining the techniques over and over again, but the smiles from the kids were worth it!!!
We saw a dolphin, turtles, even fed a couple of the local birds, the kids were amazed when a big sea eagle swooped down between Shane’s and my boat to pick up a fish, i think Smed had the wind go past as the bird swooped past his hat!

There were little fish at every spot we tried, we were lucky, after fishing the river for a few years it wasn’t too hard to find them, i said to the kids we were aiming for 10 species, but we could only manage 7.

I think the end score was over 50 for the boat with 2 of the kids catching 16 fish and 1 bagging 17, and i actually managed a couple of littlies in the half a dozen drops i was able to make between the frantic action from the youngsters. Best fish was a nice blue salmon, a cod, and then a pansized Goldie that was caught, other fish included Javelin fish, little tricky snapper, puffer fish, and another type of cod. One of the lids got smoked by something a little bigger, suspect a smalljew or a good goldie, drag was tightened a little too much during the run.

Pics follow to show you they had fun.

Thanks again shorty for organising the day. Great effort
It went off without a hitch on our boat and was full on action.

When they started out, the kids weren’t keen on handling smelly bait but by the end of the day, they had guts all over them. :D
It was funny to watch them when they started out as they thought they had a fish on everytime the sinker bounced off the bottom! But by the end of the day, they were yelling out “Yep, I’m on” just like the rest of us do.

86, the final score was 14, 17 and 18 fish plus the lost big one when ‘someone’ did the drag up too much.
I can’t remember seeing so many smiles in one day. Our motto was ‘Fishing is fun’ and they sure had a lot of fun.

Well done to all who put in the effort

Dropped a nice card and a small pressie off to Jamie at BCF, on behalf of FFF forum, as a gesture of appreciation for her input to Mate's Day. Also contacted their Head Office and gave her a wrap. graham
