Cam, get some crabpot mullet and fillet one side to the head but dont remove, fold fillet back and put hook through eye and tailwrist of fillet, suspend about 2>3 metres under a balloon. The exposed gut acts as a berley, taken some big noah's on that setup.. Quite often get cobia and big pelagics as an extra bonus....
Sounds like a bit of fun and would love to try it out although I have never heard of this balloon method. . . can anyone explain in detail? good luck chasing the sharks, let us no how you go!

Ballooning usually done off structure where there's reasonable depth of water, or from a boat. The idea is to present the bait/livie in the strike zone and keep it off the bottom away from the pickers and other garbage. Bobby floats do the same but a balloon allows you to use the wind to carry the bait further out, or hold it stationary when wind and current are opposed. The balloon also sets the hook on the strike most times, more so when using a bait-runner setup on minimum drag. Also, floats set you back around $2-4 a pop..100 round party balloons $3.. Simply tie the neck around your leader at the depth you want, and chuck it in. Livies fished in this way are deadly on most pelagics.
