Hi all,
Couldn't decide whether to put this post in this forum or the crab sub-forum,so here goes..
Was over Mandorah having a play in a small creek with some pots and having a bit of a flick; 5 undersized crabs and 1 nice full keeper, plenty of gars, long toms and other baitfish around but alas nothing of any size to be seen. It was all good fun though and my four year old son had a great time checking the pots and borrowing my polaroids to look in the water!
As we were driving home, it occurred to me (and has no doubt to many people traveling on the Cox Penisula Rd) that there might be some value checking out the creeks and rivers that cross under the road (Pioneer, Charlette, Darwin River etc) for fish or crabs (too fresh for muddies?). I very rarely see cars parked up alongside the bridges though; has anyone done so with any success? What have you managed to catch?
Regards,

Caught a few Jacks from the Blackmore River around this time of year but nothing to get too excited about. Kids have pulled up some small muddies on their squid baits so a couple of pots could be worth a try. There are a few tracks near the bridge to go bush bashing and find a fishing spot or two which is why you dont see many fishing near the bridge.

Every little culvert out there runs into the Blackmore river. Plenty of fish move upstream with the first floods. Crabs in the saltier parts at the end of the dry. might be a bit late now. wet is moving in as usual coming up to Christmas.

Thanks for all your responses; daddy daycare is going to be getting a couple of spare days a week from early in the new year as our (nearly) 2yo will be going to daycare 2 days a week and our 4yo starts school .
This should give me a chance to checkout a few places that might also be considered an 'adventure' by our older boy (who as mentioned earlier had a ball walking through only 20m of light mangroves to go crabbing and a flick) but that are still safe and relatively easy to get to for a day trip on the weekend.
Oh BTW Cozzy, I'm not sure our CRV qualifies as a full on 4WD!!
Cheers,
