On tuesday last week after the little downpuor we had i dicided to go chase tapon down in the lake so i grabed my 6lb braid spin rod and jumped on my bike and rode down the lake when i got there i noticed the water had risen about half a meter so i casted my line and first cast i had a hit from a tapon so i quikly got my line back out this time i hooked one and i was wondering why it was fighting so eratical and then it spat it then after another 10 cast there was nothing so dicided to fish the same spot but from a differant angle next cast about an 80cm barra smashed my soft plastic right at my feet it took a good run and busted me off so i quikly rode home and got my hevier gear (15 lb) and went back down there and casted in the exact same spot and hooked up again it was a bit smaller but that one busted me off as well so i went back and got 20 lb with 80lb leader and this time i was sure i was going one so i went back down and casted in the sam spot and finaly hooked one and got it in i didn't measure it but it would of been around 60cm.

Might be worth a competition location if the lakes become regular honey holes. Perhaps a kids comp?

I have never heard of any barra in the Gunn Lakes either and I have been living across the road from them ever since they were constructed. Asked the Mrs who works for Fisheries and she seems to think they may have stocked it at one time but there was some concern about the water quality and the weeds. Might have to investigate now there has been some action. Could prob almost cast there from my verandah and reach into the fridge for a beer at the same time.

yep, the kids got an 80 out of there last year, on a popper, have lost quite a few as well, have heard there has been metries taken from there!!
Should have seen him when he came back to change his rod the first time, he had the fishing shakes!! second time he had the fishing sh*ts, eventually he returned with a big smile
Only have to walk out our back gate and you are in the park next to the lakes. Apparently a few redclaw dead in there ATM, probably from all the stuff being washed in with the rain, doubt the Barra would be worth eating!!
smartypants and friends have gone to Durack this morning to have a go, hopefully will get a couple
