Hey guys
I'm a Dutch backpacker who travelled the last 2 years all around Australia. I got seriously hooked to fishing and spent lots and lots of hours fishing! But unfortunally my visa runs out and I have to go back home.. Thats why I decided to spent my last 15 days in Darwin for some hard core fishing I'm hiring a van and cruize around Darwin. I allready been to darwin for a few days stopover while I was roadtripping from Cairns to Perth. I spent a few days at the Mandorah jetty catching meter queenies and hoping for some big macks.. But this time I'm more experienced and I take it to the limit! But still I could use some help and information from you Darwin locals about the mandorah spot or diffrent landbased spots! First I would like to get some good advice about the mandorah jetty! I'm heading there with my overhead game reel setup, my 7ft ugly stick with a 750 pennspin reel loaded with 50 lb braid, and my little spinn outfit with 30 lb braid for some playing around.
So my plan was to cast out a live bait or a dead bait on my overhead setup on a float. But should I float the bait on the water surface or a few meters under for a big spanisch mackrel? Can I also use a little reef fish or are they quite picky?
Mean while my big rod is waiting for a big hit I was planning to use my 750 penn spin reel to trow poppers around for a big gt or maybe just use it with a live bait with a sinker on the bottom and use my small spinning setup to trow small softplastics around. Just wondering what is the best side to fish of the jetty? Where the boat arrives or the other side? Is there like also tuna, cobia or even something bigger around?
So after a few days fishing over there I would like to go try some other spots, someone good ideas? I really would appreciate any good advice so I can have the best last fishing days in Australia! Or if one of you guys have a boat and is keen to take me out on some offshore boat fishing that would be a dream come true! I can chip in on the fuel/beer/bait cost!

ok this is going to sound strange but here it goes..................
second light post down on the walk way cast towards the pub!, it doesn't matter how hard the current is running cast towads the pub! Use a big enough sinker to hold the bottom without drifting back under the wharf live sardine take beer
While your waiting for a skinny or Mack. Cast a 30 gram twist around. Best bet sink it straight down next to the pylons and then wind like hell.
If yout there at night catch a squid and drop it unweighted around the pylons for a Barra
Fish sunset, sunrise and tide changes.
Coming of the neaps with about 4metres of movemet is ideal.
Haven't fished over there for years but I still have my wharf rat membership here somewhere
