Watched a grey nomad pull a nice barra off Batten Point. Hand reel, 80 lb line and a pilchard on a 4/O hook. I couldn't believe it, all the time up and down the river and this dude out fishes everyone with a hand line.

Mate, the road is normally impassable for about two months through the wet season. The roads are closed, flodded, up to four feet of water over the road for about 10km, bog holes that you would lose a semi-trailer in. Doesn't matter how good a truck or how many VB's you have, there are still times when you cannot get through the dirt sections of the King Ash Bay road.
I would be checking the weather conditions leading up to the trip and check out the NT road reports for updates on the road conditions. I have seen too many people travel all that way only to have to turn around and head back home. Just don't want to see you travel all that distance for nothing.

dont worry swoffa we have back up plans not going to drive 3500km to turn back and go home, i been talking to a bloke and has been up the last 10 years at the same time and got in easy only had to turn back 3 times. there pritty good odds plus you have to have a sense of adventure thats what big fishing trips are all about. a flooded road may look like the end for the weak but its just the begining for the brave.

Hi Guys, have just joined this great forum. We'll be heading up to King Ash Bay at the start of April (weather permitting) for a few weeks. Looking to camp at either King Ash Bay Fishing Club or Batten Point, if you see a white 4 door Jeep Wrangler, please say Hi!

I fished the mouth for a week last November, all 95% of the barra we got were on dead strip mullet. They wouldnt hit lures, live or dead bait. The best meathod was to do a lock in at one of the creeks and in the process you will get about 20 mud crabs to a barra. Biggest was 101cm for us.

Much luck up there at the moment? Keen to find out what lure or soft plastic is working well at the moment as this is my first time up there and I'd like to be a little prepared. Thanks!
