Cape York Peninsula Development Road

Post by Matt Flynn »

Cape York Peninsula Development Road now has 60km sealed under a five-year sealing project.

Progress? People have loved the cape for its adventurous aspect. Will they love it when it is bitumen all the way?

Either way, there is a sadness to it ...

My understanding it's only the small adhoc sections from Laura to Weipa that are being sealed. Most of the Cape road was 100kph dirt in October last year. The road to Weipa was terrible last year the road to the tip was great.

Yes, plenty of 4WD tracks still, but there will be so many more people going there once it is sealed, and "doing the Cape" won't mean the same thing.

That said, speaking to Shane Compain about his trip to the USA, he said fish stocks there seem to be very good, thanks to good management, despite the huge peopulation pressure, so development doesn't always spell the end of good fishing.

Still sad tho ...

Exactly. if you want the 'real' experience, to the track.
some people just want the quick drive there and back to say they have done it, let them drive the black top
