The US President has announced 2500 US marines are coming to the NT. Is this good or bad?

I believe it will be good. More money pushing in for business and its only during the dry anyway. 90% of them will probably be living on a base anyway so no pressure on housing. Probably a few extra flights in bars and I wouldnt mind betting most of them wont be started by them.

Should be a good thing, U.S dont mind spending a$$$$...

no mate, the first contingent will be a company size detachment of 250, this will increase to 2500 on rotation for the dry season months..........bet ya that changes too.

the US has a great track record both socially and environmentally with its overseas bases. (sarcasm)

If we look at it from purely an economic view, it will be good for the NT economy.
But if you think that the yanks will settle for 2500 troops to set up home inside our bases, youre kidding yourself.
That is just a foot in the door. Once here, they will be polite and throw their $ around and people will love it.
However, they will set up ‘bases’ all over the place once they get their foot in the door.

If you think the Aussie AJ's cause trouble in town, wait il the yanks hit the place

yeah it will give the fat ugly chicks a bit of action. them soldiers love booty.

I wish the boot was on the other foot and it 2500 female soldiers that would make mitchell street worth while

Having troops from another nation on our soil is not on. Frankly I'm amazed that people are so accepting of this arrangement and I don't think for one minute that it will stop at 2500. In the long term I'm sure they'd love their own base here. I do like Americans and have travelled over there a couple of times, but as a nation they wouldn't lift their little finger to help unless there was something in it for them.

The yanks have been coming here for the last 100 years, I really can't see them doing much fishing and if they do it want be near me. I don't go into town so its not big deal to me.

They can fook right off. No need for them here.
