alright livebaiters fess up, which way do you think is better to rig a mullet, hook through near its tail or back of it head???
ive added a poll to keep it secret for all the closet live baiters
i hardly ever use live bait unless the situation requires it! generally it is only in the harbour i normally go through the back of the head, would be interested to hear what others do and why?
One through the top of the tail, and another one through the back up near the head. Unless it's a little one, then just the one through the tail.
*Or so I've been told this is how it's done *
A lot of guys on the mulloway here hook them through the mouth.....I've tried that, but they end up ass up,and hooking themselves through the gills,or tangling,or getting off.

I'm with you guys. Nothing wrong with using livies One hook through the back behind the dorsal is usually all I do, let em run a bit before setting the hook. I've seen some people use a small treble as a stinger as well, having it sliding on the line and pinned through the tip of the tail. Never bothered myself.

Dunno about mullet for Barra, I’ve only ever used cherabin.
When using perch and gudgeon for troot, I hook them through the top lip or just forward of the dorsal fin if wanting them to swim downwards and just forward of the tail if you want them to swim upwards.
Rather than cut the fins to make them swim all firked up, hook two together tail to tail and the just fight against each other all day long.

Sorry for the sidetrack......hey Blinky, we used to rig yabbies belly to belly for cod/yellowbelly/redfin etc. The noise from them fighting and the movement had very good results. Wonder if it would work with cherabin?

Can't see why not, I'll get my young bloke to give it a go next time he is tossing cherabin around.

I nose hook all of my live bait. Because I am nearly always in a place that is affected by the tide or currents and the live bait will run out of oxygen being hooked in the back or tail. The current or tide also makes them spin if tail or back hooked which isn't natural and may put off some fish. The most important thing is that I catch more fish using nose hooking

Yep . . . . . I'm with you blokes. Through the bottom lip with point facing up if in any sort of current. Through the dorsal if in still water or eddies. I tend to use as small a hook as I can get away with too. Barra don't seem to cough it up as much.
