Does anyone make up their own hook setup for their jigs I know you can but the dacron ones for them I was thinking of doing some with sash cord and others with multistrand although I dont have a lot of faith in crimping (my crimping anyway).

Max I make all my own with wire.... single strand as the tiger wire is to much $$$
VERY easy to do and I even heat shrink them so they look the part
Takes 3 mins per hook ....if you want to make some and need the heat gun let me know OH don't bother with the dacron stuff ...Mac's just bite ya hooks off

Never had a Mac bite a jigs hook off but have lost dozens of jigs from macs biting the whole jig off. Tried using wire on just the hook or just the leader and have never got a touch, change back over to a normal jig with no wire and get hits every time.
Have not tried this tiger wire though?

yep single strand is the go but i have had good sucsess using 100lb clear coat multistand
as for crimping get a good set of crimping pliers and harden up little Max and you should be OK
make sure when you crimp there is no twist in the wire and they dont cross over in the crimp also use red heatshink. helps attract the fish so i am told

For anyone looking for info on the Tyger wire it is spelt with a Y.
I use it as a trace with all my jigs and find it works well.
I make my own assist hooks with multi strand wire and crimps covered with red heat shrink.

Quite a few companys are offering assist hooks rigged on wire now too. Some are better than others but is a good start. Ive not lost too many jigs to Macks. Fair few kevlar assist hooks though. I usually use a long wire assist when they are around.

Hi Night Stalker,
Is the Tyger leader available in Melbourne or Darwin ?
Since I will be going Darwin next month, i might as well get a spool to try out.
Max,
I used to buy pre-tied assist hooks until I learn to tie them myself. Been using Kevlar, Dyneema and Zylon to tie them. Advantage is that you can choose your own hook, alter the length of the chord to suit your jigs. Beside that, it's fun. PM if you wanna know how to tie it...
Used to use a heat shrink tube to make the knot neat but these days cant be bothered cos it still catches fish and very easy to tie.
I have lost some jigs to Macs or maybe barracuda ( i don't know cos never land them) and they tend to cut the leader just above the jig. Guess Macs are a little inaccurate when it zooms in at high speed. Even if you use wire leader etc, a hooked mac thrashing and changing direction might cut your mono leader. Having Mac's razor too close to your leader is pretty risky. So, I reckon it is better to use just a treble.

The company that was bringing in the Tyger leader to Australia stopped a while back now and Im not sure if anyone else has taken it up. They told me it was too expensive and wasnt selling well enough. I buy mine via mail order from USA.
