Max good luck picking the best time, it all depends on what Hughie does. Personaly I hope he stops sending it down a bit earlier this year so it settles down for the early Classic.
You should be close to being on the money though.

I'm in the same boat as you Max, I am taking 6 weeks off from 30 March to the 8 May, its better to be too late than too early.
About 5 years ago my best mate from Adelaide booked a flight about 4 weeks in Advance, the rains had stopped and everything was looking sweet, then 2 days before he arrive a cyclone and monsoon hit at that was Easter time....
Needless to say it made the fishing hard, the only river we could get to was the Adelaide....

Im with you bucaneer. Hoping for a big wet that finishes up nice and early so come the classic in the last week in april the big girls will be sitting deep in the river not all held up at a few creeks!
But hard to say max. Like betting on crab races really. I guess around that time u mentioned there will be at least one river firing. Depends where u wanna fish to??? Daly, shady usually first? Costal creeks, finnis, upstream south later? Your guess is as good as mine haha..
Split em up i say mate even when most rivers are in full flood ya can still find plenty of fish. Come to think of it most of my bigger barra are in jan and feb then usualy april n may. First up 1 week at the opening of shady, then march or apirl for another finaly 1 in may down the daly. O hang on thats what im doing, i dont let the rain worry me at all except when we have a cyclone sitting on top of us. Might have to squeeze in a trip to roper as well. Bugger it all lets just take the feb to may of and go fishing
To split em up would be ideal but not an option with my job unfortunately, its a bugger when you have to book em so far ahead as the wet could do anything

I'm with Double haul on this one.... Ya can never be too early (unless there's no water around)... For fishing the mouths of the big rivers like the South... ya can never have too much water...When you get those big water falls and stuff happening ...it can be a bananza... Then again, once the fish move up the rivers it can be just as good in late April....
All sounds good but Im sure theres one you wont find me at ,the opening of Shady you couldnt pay me enough to tackle the crowd out there I think thats the reason Im fishing a lot less these days too many boats ,weve been spoilt in years gone by and Ive only been here 15.

Three weeks hard on the heels of Easter for mine. Big fish less boat travel. But as above it all comes down to the random amounts of precipitation that we receive and your choice of river. You just cant beat the adelaide for mine
