Good topic!
For softies I reckon it is hard to go past Drop bears as a good allrounder.
Gold bombers are the old faithful in hardbods, but then again so are green little lucifers.
I reckon I have caught the most barra trolling on classics in elton on chrome and guns and roses, casting would be bombers in that blue see through jobby with the orange underbelly. But that is definitely biased due to fishing some remote water out in the gulf around the numbulwar region.
It really depends on where you are and what you're doing ie flicking or trolling.

After fishing with a mate steele, I would say that water colour or clarity dictates what colour lure to tie on. He has a knack for turning up to a place and reading the water extremly early and tieing on a lure that catches 90% of the fish straight away. This has been proven time and time again on our trips and I have experimented a lot with colours, actions and depth. I am fairly convinced that green is by far the best in the rivers. Coastal i like silver and black lures or gold as a general rule of thumb. In tanin water gold and black patterns rule although a white comes into play a lot more (Due to tarpon being more present). Oh and I like most lures with an orange belly.
In saying that it all seems to depend on what the fish are feeding on and depth, actions and retreive speed rather then colour come into play a lot in my opinion.
And I hate blue. Cant seem to catch a fish on the colour. Random considering so many people love it.

For the snake drains in Darwin and Bynoe harbour I cant go past a blue and gold spearhead (colour 66) or a terminator if I want the rattle. Daly in the runoff gold bomber or the orange Nilsmaster invincible 6" I am resurecting some of my old Nilsies at the moment because they always worked long before all this fandangled plastic stuff came out.
And lately I have been experimenting with white shallow classics but the jury is still out.

For a hard bodied lure I would have to say the most fish I have taken of all species would be on nilsies in one form or another in blue over silver and yellow (66)and gold bombers Fishing for barra in the culvetts and streams and Shady most have been taken on DOA's in pearl with red head or squidgies in the same colour Anything with a bit of red and black seems to work in the dirty water but the pearl and red more consistantly
