None of this is meaningful unless you consider it in the context of a barramundi physiology.
Barra lack colour receptors making them, yes, effectively colourblind. They also have only vestigal catosensors in their retina making nearly impossible for them to distinguish the outline of an object. This is why they dont "see" hooks or swivels which give off visual stimuli of 90% outline v mass.
To compensate for this however barra have highly developed mid-tone sensors which activate at the slightest change of of reflective ambience. Their capacity to recognise tonal change is beyond our comprehension. They can tell if an object (lure) has been fished for an hour or just come out of someones warm hand. They can "see" if the object is rubber, metal, cloth or die-cast plastic no matter what colour it is.
And thats what we need to understand. White works because it contrasts with every underwater structure giving the lure a constant ambience that is in line with the ambience of an unstressed fish.
Gold works because it reflects available light creating a mid-tone ambience that mirrors the excited discharge of a fish in trouble......ever noticed how gold lures get hit harder?
So why does green work? It doesnt. Well not by itself. Green only works when seen through a brown filter....such as dirty or tannin water...like the Daly, downstream at the Mary, the South..which gives it a mid-tone ambience the barra registers (oddly) as a small school of baitfish. Its not till its gets close enough to strike that it can in any way visually recognise the lure.
The best colour lure that takes full advantage of the barras unique optical mechanics is black and white......but put together in sections of less than 3mm. ie striped or chequered rather than half white and half black. This way the colours meld and cancel leaving a visual "vaccuum" in the barramundi view. An absence of stimuli gives a distinct ambience signal recognisable to all barramundi. It is the ultimate stimuli.....a stimuli that mirrors the emissions of................the wobbly legged frog.

I've often wondered why bait fish (and the vast majority of fish) are silver. You would think that throughout evolution, fish would have adopted the best colour to avoid being eaten. So then, why don’t silver lures work better than all others?

No rights or wrongs in my book . My own thoughts are , dirty water - dark colour lure , clean water - bright colour lure. Same with night fishing under moon, full moon - bright colours, black moon - dark colours. Either way, which ever lure your using it's still got to bebetter than watching TV or working !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm not so sure Mud. I think I might have read bigger loads of bollocks on this site before! If not they were close to it.
Good work though.

yes well, you actually sounded like you knew what you were talking about for a bit there mud!!, but i reckon they change their mind everyday!!
thats why everyone buys so many different coloured lures, cause they know(think) that one day, the fish will like the colour that they havn't caught a fish on yet.
maybe its just so the tackle shops can make more money, i don't know, but i reckon i have a few lures in my tackle box that have never caught a Barra, but who knows, one of em might be the best one next time i go out!! i might even try it!!!
