I think they should sell off a limited number of tickets. Put some tickets up for tender each year to take a white. Govt makes some money, and the sharks are controlled. Sharks must be fished within two miles of shore to get the ones that swim near the coast.
I believe it was the cage dive industry that began lobbying to protect them, now the chickens are coming home to roost.

there is just as much risk in driving to the beach as there is getting eaten by a shark, we dont kill people when they kill people driving a car we just lock them up for a few years and then they might get out and kill again the difference is the fear of being eaten alive. if you fear being eaten stay out of the water. just my opinion sorry if it offends I voted yes

LOL @ polcat. U know where I sit. Sharks are a critical part of the food chain. We can't have the whole environment to ourselves.....we might as well swim in a giant wave pool.

We dont cull idiot drivers that kill someone. Where would we stop? Kill everything that gets in our way? Gotta learn to live with what is in the environment. I voted yes.

Let them be. I used to surf a lot until a scare, which gave me a feeling of awe at the same time. Just like if I enter into the eco system where crocs reign supreme, "Enter at your own risk! - Good Luck!"
They are magnificent animals as are our crocs. Difference is that you don't have morons feeding the sharks at the surf beaches and sharks travel thousands of kilometres in search of food.
Feel very sorry for that young man's family and friends and having surfed that stretch of coast in complete innocence, can understand his want to be out there. Great part of Australia. Killing the shark will do nothing but appease the wanton bogan needs of very few. Veil to him and may he catch the cleanest waves in the lofty heavens.

F#uck em I'm with Matt on this one. Close to shore is not their area it's a shared area and if they want to eat people then they should feel the sharp end of the food chain

Close to shore is their area. Swim and you might get eaten, farkin simple. People know the risks so let them be.

It's not like they can be relocated to the 'shark farm'. Management of the numbers has to be considered.
