heres one for you . You want to ban that trap because of the l"imited" by catch when lost. Well perhaps you should ban lures as well because they can wrap up in a tree by the line and a fish can boof a lure as it swims in the current and die. Its a part of fishing. Maybe ban the tourists that bring all there money and feed it into the ecconomy as well. There the highest percentage of people who lose the pot due to dropping them in an 7 metre tide and get them washed away after all.

Haven't got the answers BC but when I do go crabbing they are the only ones I use now. I don't leave them unattended too long and by regularly checking them the bye catch is always alive and can be released, I always tie them to a tree also so they don't get lost.
When I used the old set wire pots they also gill fish and when they get lost they fish and fish and fish and just keep fishing.
At least the type in the photo's only take a tide or 2 to fill with cr.p and collapse.

Theres a couple of points. The wire pots last for ever before they stop working and I know cod and other fish of the like always went in them. Could use dillys but have seen sea snakes tangle in them allong with other things. They all have a limited by catch.

I've never lost a net yet, even on big tides. I use my gps to locate them each time. I've left them in overnight when I couldn’t find them but got them the next low tide not far from where I dropped them
