if he is a guide and you had a great time over a week then you can slip him $50 , if he owns the operation then f#$K him , bottom line is they don't expect it .

A mate of mine did guide work based from jabiru for a few years and he used to get tipped all the time if he put them onto a great session. But never expected it in any way. If you feel the need to then go for it. Totally up to you.
If I had a great trip and knew I would not have had the same kind of trip without him then I would. I Mean getting put onto a Metery is worth a lil extra if you ask me.

In Australia, we don’t expect to tip or get tipped like they do in other countries. I worked in a hunting safari camp a while ago and clients were mostly Yanks. One client asked me to bake a cake which I did. He later gave me $100 for that. It was a nice cake though and he was a millionaire

We dont work like the Americans were they make most of there wage from tips.
Guides here are garanteed to get paid regardless of the trip.
It is still a very nice thing to slip an extra little bit of coin just to show your appreciation for a trip if you feel that they have gone that extra mile in an effort to give you the best possible experiance but that is completly up to your own thoughts.
When I did charters I actually got more tips on the hard fishing days because people could see that I was working my arse off in an attempt to catch fish for them.
When the fishing was good i was too busy to pay much attention to individuals as the processing and re-rigging kept me flat out with 14 people on the boat. This seemed to make people think you didnt put the effort in for the individual and therefore you would get less tips.

offering a few coldies is pretty standard behaviour....I'd guess declining the offer would be part and parcel of being a non drinker or recovering alcoholic then you'd make other arrangements If you spend all day in the outdoors with other people having beers I'd imagine the offer of a coldy would have already been made at some stage and it would be a non issue anyway

a long time ago i was guiding at the barra base for mainly food and board (?), so when a happy client slipped you a $50 it was much appreciated and you knew you lit them up as well

i have guided for over 25 years ,most people tip guides, it's not expected the only thing a guide thinks about is if his punters have caught more fish than anyone else ,sometimes the tip is a few lures or rods and reels or a few beers .when i was young , on my best weeks i could pull a grand cash in tips and a guides wage was only $300 a week.

What seems to be the answer is neither a simple yes or no, although most have voted no so far, the "vibe" appears to be that if you've had a good trip with an enthusiastic, helpful guide, enjoyed yourself, and are in a position to, why not show your appreciation. This I have found helpful.
