Best tip you can give a valued guide is,

That you will tell anyone who will listen what a great time you had and what incredible value for money they were and after all the hard work you did sorting through the thousands of guides you could have booked that these guys put you on the fish every time and worked their collective a$$e$ off for you and your mates and you couldn't be more happy with them 8) ,
Then ask for a 10% discount on your next booking because thats your normal marketing fee :naughty:

Seriously, make their lives easier when ever possible, be considerate, appreciate the hard work they put in, shout them a beer and don’t haggle over the price,

if they're any good it's money well spent  .

A definate NO. These guys get paid shyte loads anyway Especially if your the owner  Does your boss tip you when you put in a big week. It's just a job, and what you are paying for

God this going to bite me in the arse

Years ago I was at the Barra Base, and Chris Rainbird took us out to the Jewie Reef in Port Herd. After frigging around for 1/2 an hour dropping the anchor, then re-setting it, to get us on "just the right spot", the result was a 45lb jewie. Later that night he cut out the jewels to give to me. I was pretty rapt as that was the biggest fish I had caught (and did so with 12lb mono  )

When I got back to Sydney I had a jeweler set 1 of the "jewie jewels" in a gold setting with chain, that I sent to him for the effort he put in. I think Chris would have appreciated the gift over the money.

So yes, if you feel its warrented, the offer them what you think is right.

Not sure about getting paid shitt loads. It might seem like a lot especially to the owner but the cost of wear and tear on vehicles, trailers, boats, motors and the other costs of tackle, reels and such all adds up. To go with this you throw on insurances and liabilities not a lot is made realistically. Especially when you consider that they start at 4am and wont finish cleaning a boat, car and equipement untill 9 or 10 at night to be ready to go the next day. The hours to dollars ratio definatly doesnt come close to a tradie or many other jobs. Sure you arent in a office and it seems like fun but throw 20 fifteen hour days in a row and it soon loses a little of its appeal. :|

The big thing for me is if a guide is trying everything possible to give you a great trip, well he deserves anything extra you wish to pass on. It aint expected but a nice thought all the same.

Love it Drifter, you sorta, definitely, maybe, unequivocally, choose to sit on the fence, almost.

They might get a good salary over the full year but when you work out the hrly rate, better off driving a bus.
