Huge tides tactics

Post by Matt Flynn »

Just had a week of huge tides in Darwin, are they worth fishing, or is it best to stay home or hit the billabongs?

Not a big tide fisher .But if I do I head towards Fog bay and hit as many spots as I can till I find the fish.

Jeff is on the money!

Best tides for bottom bashing at Dundee. I still use 4 oz sinkers on these tides out that way..

Mow the lawn and palm fronds is a good option but if I was to fish it would be Fog Bay or harbour barra. But then again, I havent got a handle on either place

And drinking beer in the pool in my floaty chair is right up there too :titanic:

Yes a lot of people disregard north & south gutter but both fish extremely well on really big springs.

Big tides are best for me usually, especially around the Vernons and Gunn Point.
Just pick the first big tides coming off the neaps so you still have a bit of clear water about.

Love the big tides at the Perons as well, full moon and New Moon, big tides.
If there is water and it holds fish, then it is fun trying to fool them into eating what you offer!!

Especially when you can see them!

That's the most important secret right there, full & new moons.

Big tides are good to fish but windows are different to other tides. Takes more working out of bite times and currents and water clarity but the rewards are better once you do IMHO.

Fish the drains, I find they all produce good barra fishing, even if there not huge specimens there good fun, I always get out there on big tides.

That's it Pete, just have to work it out! More you try, more you learn.
