Post Posted: Thu Nov 25, 2010 10:09 pm    Post subject: Can NT Govt be trusted with dangerous industries?

The NT Government has failed to manage the oil-drilling industry, with its lack of action apparently to blame for the giant Montara oil spill in the Kimberley.

http://www.ntnews.com.au/article/2010/1 ... tnews.html

This mismanagement follows earlier revelations that the NT Government failed to notice and stop tonnes of toxic ore spilling into Darwin Harbour and other NT ports, as well as failed to manage electricity infrastructure properly.

With this track record, can the NT Government be trusted to manage the mooted Darwin chemical plant, or other potentially dangerous industries, such as gas?

Or are they just unlucky?

I tihink you should just shorten the title to "Can the NT Govt be trusted."

The problem is that no government can be trusted with dangerous industries.

Trust me, I'm from the Government.
No govt can be trusted because they never earn our trust. they will always do whatever they think will get/keep them in govt. when it turns to shite, they just spin out of it

and to add to nomad's comments, any industry that provides royalties or tax dollars to the govt. will get all the exemtions they want, just ask the good folk in QLD about coal seam gas extraction.

unfortunately company's can be trusted even less then governments. the territory would
be a strip mine if there were no controls, at least governments can be voted out.

I'd sooner trust Warnie to look after my little sister or Boonie to look after my beer fridge than trust the current bunch of tossers with anything. Their record speaks for itself. They spin more than my bedroom after the last FFF drinks :captain:
