How do you guys comply with oars & rowlocks for min. safety

Talk about bungled boat ramps, net buybacks, marine no-go zones, mining disasters etc here.

How do you guys comply with oars & rowlocks for min. safety

Post by garrynt »

I'm trying to make myself foolproof on the water in my 4.55m boat.
The NT minimum safety standard states....

"Two paddles or oars fitted with rowlocks for all vessels under 5 metres in length unless fitted with an auxiliary means of propulsion"

I've always had my old firbreglass canoe paddles, but no rowlocks?

So how do you do it?

Got an electric? I believe the statement is written as "(Two paddles) or (oars fitted with rowlocks) for all vessels under 5 metres....."

Or, just get a small kids toy boat that has a little battery operated motor and prop.... That would be classified as an auxiliary mean of propulsion.

Would holding onto the back and kicking like crazy count as auxillary propulsion?

Best use for oars is stick them into a mud bank and tie the tinny to stop your drift.

Mine was from camerons beach to buff creek. Water was crystal clear and had 2 people on watch. We were racing the tide so it was the quickest way out of a jam.

don't knock the collapsible paddles, I have them in my 3.5 explorer, sit up on the bow which pops the stern up and easy to paddle. I saw the locals doing it PNG, works a treat.
