Hmm, 3 wrong. Looks like I'll be running up on a lot of reefs because they all related to markers.

20 from 25... not too shabby i thought considering i have really only fished in rivers and can count on one hand the amount of times i have put the boat in the ocean at night..

Some of those distress flags, and deep water channel night lights brought me unstuck... :bricks:

Cheers
JB

24/25 here as well. I too forgot the Cardinal marker sequince for a second. Forgot that the sequince starts on the East at three Flashes and ends on the North at 12 flashes going up in three flash groups from east to North.

East 3 rapid flashes, south 6 ,west 9 , north 12 flashes. i started on the North :banghead: Good to refresh the memory. The east and west cardinal are tricky too but I remember by the marker having a v in the sides of the west Cardinal. 2 V's make a W there for W for West. Probably confussed every one but it worked for me. :bonk:

cardinal markers are easy to remember, the flashes represent the number on the clock in the same direction. so east points directly at the 3, so 3 flashes. also the day shapes can be remebered a similar way, the traingles point up, pass to the north, and cuddlescupper is right about the the 2 V's.

there are so many sayings to help people remember the rules, i guess we all just need to say them more often so gumpies pick up on it. i try to teach my misses everything as we are on the water. its the best way for her to learn and good for her incase something happens to me out there.

only ever fished on the river before coming up here, looks like i might need to brush up a bit.

You beauty 25/25. But it was 10 years since i did my coxswains.

who said we dont need training here?

That was a very basic test, imagine the carnage on the roads if people didnt know the rules of the roads.

you can't seriously think that the majority of people out on the roads would score 100% (or even 50%?) on a similar exam for road rules?

19/25, and I dont even own a boat.
Not too bad I guess..
Fishing in the top end isn't just a matter of life or death, it's much much more serious than that.

20 from 25... Doh! :banghead: Why was there no questions on ratio of beers to take per person per hour, or the stategy of how to get the deckies to help clean the boat instead of legging it the moment you hit the driveway? Hmm. . :jester: :bs:

Not a chance. It was tongue in cheek

I did a heavy vehicle course a few years ago and was surprised at the things I didnt know. I was able to download the exam. I got about 30 mates to do the exam and no one passed.
Bit scary isnt it?

Just on that, I have never seen so many people go thru red lights and stop signs as up here. must be the weather. :lipsrsealed:

I still think that training (for anything) is no burden to carry.

Is it just me or does some of the answers to those questions seem a bit different? I have a fairly good knowlege of the international rules for preventing collions at sea and some of the answers in regards to lights on yachts etc don't seem right. I do agree that we need a boat licence up here but honestly who would enforce it? Not enough fisheries officers let alone water police.
