Help wanted Fitting hydrofoil, free beer.

Post by Hally10 »

Anyone with some experience in fitting a hydrofoil, I think I need a bit with mine. A little aprhensive to go drilling trough the cav plate. If someone who knows what their doing was willing to lend a hand there'd be a carton of beer in it otherwise any advice would be appreciated.
Cheers

Why do you think you need one, they don't make you go any faster.
You shoud only fit one if you have trouble keeping the nose of the boat down.

Yeah mate. She is a little underpowered and with the weigh distribution I have it takes a bit to get her out of the hole doesn't plane till about 4000rpm. The motor is set right and everything though she just needs a little help with the rear end. Migh look at the holeless fitting kit.

they are more for getting out of the hole and onto the plane quicker then anything.

They are piece of poo to fit mate. You should have a template that comes with it when you fit it. Trim it all the way down. Make sure its in the middle, Mark with a texta and drill away. Measure twice cut once!!!! if you stuff it up you can drill the holes out a bit to get it to fit but its only 4 holes mate so easy as. I'd help but im out bush til friday night and going fishing sat. can help sunday if you dont get it done

If its a bit under powed a smaller prop size will get it out of the hole quicker as well.
What is your maximum rpm when you get it up and going trimed out?

Yeah mud crab. Went down a size in pitch which I'll try out tomorrow, that should get the rpm up and if still no good I'll throw the foil on. And fanatic, the beer may be drunk during installation it too hot to do anything without beer at the moment.

I just want to make sure I get it right the first time. In terms of the correct positioning of the foil etc. can't find anything on the net as a guide or on you tube.

Yamaha 60 4st. Had a read of the template mippa, sounds simple enough. Well see how confident I get tomorrow, take it for a run with the new prop before I make my final decision.

When we fitted the hydrofoil to my old mans alloy cat it helped it get up on the plane and increased the top speed by 5-7kts
