Fish Chiller Bags - any good??

Talk about the gear you can't afford and knots you can't tie.

Fish Chiller Bags - any good??

Post by Jungle »

Hi gang,

Just wondering if anyone has used one of these "fish chiller bags" and if so what are your thoughts on their ice holding abilities?

I'd really like to stick one under the seat of my skiff for tuna and macks.

I found a review here - tacklejunkie.fish/review-chiller-fish-bags

Cheers,

Matt

They are handy for when you score a good fish you want to keep but they are murder on ice. I just tend to trunk Macks and tuna prior to icing these days, it seems to have improved the eating quality as well I assume this is because it gets the core temp of the trunks down quicker. The ice also seems to last longer, I'm guessing this is due to a smaller heat load. I use a small but reasonably long esky that doesn't require much ice. A Mackerel box is a better option in my opinion if you are keeping them regularly
