Looking at getting into some aluminium welding to create some mad mods but first I need to get some gear.
Any recommendations on welders? I'm only dabbling and won't be mass producing so I only need something that functions.
I already have an arc welder to cover anything steel so no need for a dual purpose welder.
TIA

Re: Aluminium Welding
If you want to go tig make sure you get a unit with AC high frequency or it wont weld alloy.
Small mig units work well but you should apply some pre heat to the work before welding.
Make sure you clean all the areas to be welded with a STAINLESS STEEL wire brush as ordinary(carbon steel) ones will contaminate the weld.
May take a bit of practice but worth it.
Good luck.

Re: Aluminium Welding
I have a boc single phase 250amp mig. Run a Teflon liner on a normal binzal handpiece. Use 1.2 alloy wire with tips made for 1.2 alloy wire and argon gas and get good enough results considering I learnt to weld from YouTube.
