Touch Screen Sounders

Post by smed »

Just had an interesting chat with one of the local retailers. I was specifically going in to look at the two units (won't name brand or models) that have similar features. Appears the more expensive of the two units have been taken off their pricing list, due to issues with the touch screen & its ability to handle the heat & humidity. Don't want to bag the brand/s, but I'm interested to know if anyone has had issues with touch screen units up here. Pretty sure I've just been saved a minimum grand as a result of this.

Had no trouble with hds.. On some days you feel how hot the screen is, its a surprise they handle it so well. (Touch wood)

i run 3 x Lowrance units. 2 of them are touch (7 and 12 gen 3 ). they get really hot but havent missed a beat in all the time ive had them. havent owned athers except for a cheap arsed garmin 20 years ago.

the hot screen is good during the dry as it helps keep you warm and you can also cook bacon and eggs on it

seriously though, its not that hot just feels weird when you use it. both of mine are in the shade of a canopy or console

i would be the 1st to blow up if they had a problem.

I genuinely had my heart set on this unit for the last year and a half, thinking I'd have the ability to check my crab pots without lifting them as well as spotting the tags on Million Dollar fish to target. A pretty significant outlay (bit over four grand). Pretty impressed that I was given the 'heads up' in the shop. Then went Option B: looking at the next model down at a bit over three grand. Then was directed to Option C: Garmin Echomap95SV which comes in at bout three grand under what I was initially looking at. Anyone had anything to do with them?

I don't think the touch screens are as bright as the older ones, much harder to read from an angle

I have a garmin touch screen and the screen has stopped working...cant use touch and there is no buttons to use so the sounder is kaput. Have tried to recalibrate but can't do that as the part you need to touch is the part that is not working.

Any suggestions on how to fix?????

Can't help Jeno, but this was the suggestion yesterday that if you were going touch screen get a unit that combines button controls for the very reason that you're experiencing.
