Headed off to Shaol Bay for a crabbing session today.
Left out of Buff Creek at about 7.30, a few nomads on the water before us, but they all seemed to be staying in Buff Creek.
Had a quick (one pass) troll at the rock before getting into the crabbing. No fish so kept going. Should have stayed for two runs, got marooned on a sand bar for about 20mins. Just had to sit and wait for a little more water!!
We had to work pretty hard for our crabs and found that one pot got four of the seven legal crabs we got. It is the most battered pot, held together by cable ties.
All crabs were well over size and full so we were pretty happy.
Saw lots of sea eagles today too, but no pics sorry.
They were pretty tasty too, had a few chilli style tonight. Would have invited you lot over, but cause I couldnt get a deckie to help with my gyprock over the long weekend... I make good crab too!!
Sometimes I see what are apparently abandoned pots about. I always think I should retrieve them and call the owner when we get back, but then I worry the marine and fisheries will get me for having too many pots. its a conundrum. I hate leaving them there.
well done on the crab front there mate, chilli crab very nice .I think some people forget how fast that tide comes in over there and away goes their pots with it
