With Sunday upon us I slept in big time and missed the majority of the incomming tide this morning that I had planned on fishing for a feed of crabs. With this knowledge i decided to give the fishing thing a miss as the missus didnt sound all that keen either when asked if she still wanted to go. By time that 130pm rolled around we were still sitting at home bored out of the brain trying to decide on what to do.
Well eventually I spat the dummy and decided to pack the boat and shoot accross to West arm for a little boating. I say boating because thats about all I expected to be doing in this cool weather and I told Sindy that I didnt expect much especially considering that I havent been over there for 2 years or so and the tide was well and truely on the way out which normally i wouldnt bother crabbing on.
With the pots baited with big Goldie heads and set in deep gutters that I remembered held some water towards the low it was time to head off for a fish. I headed to a rockbar that in the past has always produced some thing. It may not always produce target species like barra or the like but on most occasions had small goldies or cod if the barra and salmon wern't biting.
First pass Sindy's 10 + classic got smashed and a short battle saw a nice little Jack hit the deck.

The next three passes produced nothing. When I say nothing I mean that is what we mannaged to land. On all three passes we hooked good fish and got bricked in the middle of the fight. The fourth pass saw Sindy get hooked up to a unstoppable that again did the buisness on the oyster rocks. I called this fish for a jew because of the line it pulled and head thump it had but I guess we will never know. in total we landed 2 jacks and lost 3 classics but was bl..dy good fun trying to stop some of the critters on the rocks. Not bad considering I had no real thoughts of catching a lot.
Well after a bit under 1 1/2 hours had passed the water was dropping out fast so I decided that I had better retrieve the pots while I still had enouth water to get into the gutters. Upon arrival I realised that I had to be quick as a lot of mud banks were on show. With a bit of mud chewing I got to the first pot. This pot failed to produce and I was glad that at least we had some action on the fish to keep Sindy happy as it didnt look good for a feed of crabs considering the first pot came up empty and the fact that the tides were on the way out. Well the second pot came up and Sindy was struggling to lift it. I thought it was snagged on the bottom. Another glance reveiled the reason she was struggling. The pot was stacked with three good bucks.

Sindy was stoked as was I. The next pot increased the size of the smile when it revealed another 2 big bucks and a good size Jenny. All in all the 10 pots had 11 good sized crabs in them.

Not a bad effort considering that I neally didnt bother putting the boat in the water and that we left at 3pm and were back at the ramp with the boat on the trailer by 6pm. Sindy liked the smoke filled sky so took a couple of photos

PS. For any of you Tuna hunters there was a big school of longtails about 1 mile east north east of the Monaloa wreck. There is plenty of bait there and I would expect them to be in the harbour for a while over these neap tides.

Good work , nice to read a fishing post pretty far and few these days
Yup, more traffic on the site than ever and fewer reports. Some FFFers who used to complain about the lack of reports aren't posting. Dunno what the answer is, keen for suggestions.
Great report above, glad some are willing to share, the real-time reports make the whole fishing experience more enjoyable.
