Hi guys'
Do we get Blue Simmer crabs up here?
The reason I ask is I was speaking to a guy at work today and he caught a few whilst fishing (on a line) in Middle arm on Sunday. I didn't think Blue Swimmers would be up as I have caught heaps down south but have not seen any up here.
Is he pulling my leg are there a species similar up here?

Try putting pots out around sandy/weedy areas in the cooler months. Maybe Darwin Harbour?
You will probably find that blue swimmers have been there all along just no one targets them.
'Here in the Pilbara we get both Muds and Swimmers. In the Hot season we target Muddies in the creeks and in the cool season we target Blue Swimmers along the beaches. We tend to not get swimmers in the Hot or Muddies in the cool. But crabs all year round isnt a bad thing!

The sandflat out the front of rapid creek is a blue swimmer hot spot.
I've eaten them before - but for the effort you have to put into catching/cooking/eating they're not worth it when muddies are so easy to catch and have so much more meat.

i was fishing out front of pee wee's in east point a few weeks ago on a king low tide. got bored and saw a blue swimmer so threw my cast net at it. put him in my bucket as he was a fair size. ended up finding it very fun and easy to wander around the waters edge on the incoming tide and spotting them and throwing the net over them and dumping them in my bucket.
literally got a bucket full and kept the 8 biggest.
