Anyone catching crabs?

Catch and cook a seafood buffet, with or without barramundi.

Anyone catching crabs?

Post by balou »

Really struggling this year to get any crabs in any numbers. The last couple of years have been shockers for me maybe crabwise which I have put down to our poor wet season.

My last 4 trips with the kids

Mickets x5
Leader x 3
Lizzie x3
Lizzie x3

Most of them have been 50-60%.

What's your experience been like?

Happy to receive a tip on location via pm :D

Went to Leaders a couple of weeks ago. Got two crabs from 4 pots, both bucks, but wasn't really "crabbing", just soaking pots while we went for a fish, only pulled them on the way home. Not full, but enough for a feed.

Have been getting a couple of decent bucks up the back of west arm in the creek on the right. Was on the building tides last weekend though, would be interesting this weekend.

Crabbed Leeders a week or so ago over 4 days, didnt crab hard, but had a few pulls, only managed 3 crabs, let them soak over in SWA one of the days and got 3 good bucks from 1 pull. all were onlu 50-60% as well. Speaking to Brian at Leeders, said the creek is empty of crabs and everyone is doing it hard, said he has 5 pros working from his base, but they have an agreement that they wont crab leeders, not that it matters. All pros have been doing it hard out that way, catching SFA, and probably cause they are hammering further afield, they arent making to the creeks. Seems they all agree that the Shite wet seasons are having a big effect.
Cheers,
Brad

Alright going across, pretty average coming back. Seen it a lot worse out there though.

Just had a feed of chilli crabs. Body's full as, but claws pretty empty. Weird.

SWA pretty hit and miss ATM. I haven't had much luck out of Leeders Creek. Woods inlet is pretty consistent for me.
