Has anyone caught any tropical crayfish or know where i could find some and how to catch them? :fishing:

Weed reef has em. Use crab pots with big entrance and mangoes for bait.

Never tried to catch the tropical crays, is there any comparison to our mighty muddie?

is it profitable and worth while dropping a few pots on weed reef?

i think ill have to give the mangoes a crack, never know ur luck in a big city!!

is it better on the big movement or neap tides chanos?

Thanks for that tip chanos. I have been chasing them at the Vernons with no success, though I have been diving for them. Might try some jack fruit in a trap, it is pretty pungent and should attact fruit lovers. Ive got one at home. My mangoes are still hard like cricket balls.

Havn't seen hide nor hairof one while spearing.

What about the Vernon's? I have herd of people catching them but what do you look for, do you just plomp pots on the reef or near big drop off's?

Might have to give the mango thing a go.

You can get them diving at Roche reef.

With the weed reef scenario, I was told by a pretty good source that you take the arc mesh type crab pot to weed reef on an evening low tide and nail the pot down with tent pegs. Leave overnight and pick up next morning.

Muddies are considered to taste better than painted crays - being sweeter - but that's a subjective opinion

Wanna see a 1.4kg Painted Cray drop in to Indo Pacific Marine some time. I reckon the Muddies taste better though.

Often seen washed up on the beach not far from darwin so they must be out there.
apparently they "clean house" on the 3 tide neap days so you can catch them out of their hides.
