Well this is sure to open a can of worms. I have my own ways to catch a good feed of muddies but i'm keen to know how everyone else goes about it.
If you're keen to share your wonderful ways please leave the details, best tides, best baits, best time of year. If you have any spots you find better than others let us know, unless they're top secret of course!!!

Get some chicken frames from lenards soak em in tuna/fish oil the day before and rig them up in stockings then inside the wire nets inside your pots, go the biggest tides you can get the more movement the better, put your pots in on the low as far up the creek your fishing you can get and then check them every hour on the incoming, the lil farkers can get out trust me. if your fishing neaps you can still get a feed but the crabs barley move as much so you have to keep moving your pots if you havent got anything in the pots move them to a new spot... reicharts and Bleesers both crab well, shoal bay is out of control but its a long way from home. I got 8 bucks out of reicharts on the weekend between 6 pots in the first pull.
Woods does well or any creeks with mud about, you will prob bag out on blue swimmers i throw them back. rapid creek is off the chain also. when im not hiring a boat im in rapid off the bank... hope its helped ive had alot of help off this forum when i was learning so happy to return the favor and share my knowlage

Favorite spot is SWA run in. 3-4m movement. Anymore and it becomes hard to fish on your own. Also caught plenty up the Liz and Woods. Check pots regularly. If I am crabbing and not fishing I will check my pots every 20mins in SWA. Baits I use are meat offcuts from woolys or fish heads that I have frozen from previous fishing trips (keep the gills and guts with the head).
My methods are probably not the best but I nearly always get a feed and a lot of the time I will be throwing them back to keep the best 3-5 bucks depending on how many I need.
To be honest, I dont think there is any right answer to your question

Fresh goldie/barra frames, SWA or Shoal Bay, April - May, last 3 hours of the incoming, up the back of creeks and gutters on springs, snake drains on the flats on neaps.
We had some crazy crabbing trips this year. Our records were broken for: Number of crabs in the one pot = 10 legal bucks in 1 hour. Number of legal bucks in one pull = 40+ in 1.5 hours, 10 pots. We only keep the biggest, fullest, undamaged bucks and we were bring home 20 per trip. Also there were a lot more Rambo crabs this year.
Shoal bay crabs tend to have sweeter meat and SWA or Harbour crabs tend to be richer in flavour.

I use fresh tuna heads in my pots if I can get them, if not any fish head will do, I try to lay a couple of pots in different areas to find the crab and when I get a few in a pot Ill pick up the rest of the pots and put them in that area. I then check them every two to three hours, seems to work for me.
