Always a bit of fun when i take the five year old out... he isnt much good at reversing the car, driving the boat, baiting the crab pots or pulling them in for that matter.. but he enjoys it.
we headed out for a midday high a week or so back from Buff creek ramp and got a few nice crabs for dinner. . on the water at 8.30am out by about 1.30pm
I use the square fold down pots but i am considering changing to the round ones. .sometimes its a pain getting 1/2 dozen little buggers untangled to throw them back..
reading these foums and talking to the local crews it never amazes me the different types of crab baits people swear by..
For me.. the last 2 trips i have used combo of beef.. mackeral. .and woolworths BBQ chicken carcases.. the BBQ chicken wins hands down for me.. Whilst it wont last as long as a lump of beef.. those crabs just seem to love the woolies stuffing

Barratragic nice crabs . Re the bait I generally try to use fish frames but I am sure other bait would work well (such as BBQ chook).

Hey Barratragic, I have recently switched from the round ones to the rectangle ones. just found them lighter, easier to empty and they stack better in the boat when folded up.
have always used chicken carcass' from lenards. didn't realise the cooked ones would be any good.

Sounds like a plan Brent..i will be in touch..
Semper.. just to be clear... i dont use the whole chook for the crabs. .generally the breast makes for my lunch while i am on the boat.. so i too use just the carcass.. and go late in the evening before hand to buy them when they are out cheap !
