The missus had promised some friends coming up id take em out crabbing, but after the last 2 trips I wasnt overly confident of getting onto the crab. The last time I went to SWA a month or so ago, it was friggin tough going, to the point where I was getting paranoid and blaming the pros for sneaking in during the wet and cleaning the place out! Although the only fish heads for bait I could get were Atlantic Salmon. Maybe that was the problem? A good 4m of run in tide only resulted in 4 average crabs....
So I wasnt feeling good about going out on a small tide as I usually fair better on the bigger tides. 3 lads, 2 eskies and all sorts of other poop made the going slow in my lil tinnie and 15hp, so we didnt go far from the ramp. Set all our pots (barra heads and lamb as bait this time) in the first creek on ya left heading out, with the first pull after a good soak resulting in only 1 buck and a small jennie (the only jennie for the day). Decided to go grab the 2 that werent in gutters, and the front 2, and move them back up past the ramp but not as far as the branch. The last of the 4 pots we picked up had 3 keepers. Looking a bit better....
Came back and pulled the remainding 6 and it was game on! Every pot for the remainder of the morning, or close to, had crab. The best came from 2 that we moved up past the ramp. 1 pot had 3 keepers (including an angry red bastard) and the next 1 had 4 + a small cod! Choice!
We must have thrown 15-20 keepers back and a few green ones. Kept 12 and had a choice feed of chilli, and garlic/butter crab, whilst watching QLD pineapple the Blues!
Also, the road has been graded and its a quick trip out so get out there before the road goes to poop! But beware of a big black croc hanging around the ramp - close to 4m, easily 3.5m

Brilliant report. I am jinxed as far as crabs go but you have given me a ray of light that ONE day I will get a few. Well done and applause for only taking what you need. If we all did that for all species it would be even better.
