Anyone had much success with crabs on neap tides? Just trying to work out if it is worth chucking a couple of pots out this weekend

Some places crab better on neaps. Its a matter of working out where. One trick is to set the pots and leave them a little longer then what you do normally without moving them. I usually move them every 45minutes on bigger tides but on neaps I drop them for 2 hours on likely spots. This gives the crabs a chance to find the sent and move to the pot as they dont have as much current to move around on.

I alway find them far less productive - try rocky areas and deap bends as the flats won't have enough time and depth

I find creek mouths are best on neaps, way up the back of creeks on the bigger tides....

The clear water on neaps is good for finding snake drains on the flats near creek mouths and making sure the pots are laying flat on the bottom. leave them in for longer. As Mudic said out the front on neaps, up the back on springs. Some places do crab better on neaps. On the last 2 neap crabbing trips in Shoal Bay and SWA we've brought home 20 of the biggest/fullest bucks and let the rest go.
